It is a bit of trouble to get to the see catacombs on your own, but well worth it. We took the subway out as far as we could, then rode a city bus to a stop about 2 blocks to the catacombs. What a site to be hold. It's more than you could ever imagine to think you are... More

One of the largest and most famous of the Roman catacombs, it consists of five levels of galleries between the old Appian Way (Via Appia Antica) and can be visited on guided tours. The main sights in the catacomb are the crypt of the popes, various other important inscriptions, 3rd-century frescoes of Baptism and the Eucharist, and 6th-century frescoes of... More

I was really upset with my visit to this place. Its a bit far from the city, expensive and there is not much to see. There are no bones whatsoever at the area we can visit (a tiny part of the second floor), you walk for less than 20 minutes with a guide and cant take any photos. Its a... More

I was beyond thrilled to come to Rome and finally see the catacombs... so it was the first stop with our rental car. My Rome-born boyfriend had never been there, so we parked, queued and purchased tickets. A guide (German, French or English I believe) takes you down the stairs in large groups, and while its vaguely interesting as it... More

these were so cool to visit-the guide takes you down into them(they have multiple language tours available) they do move quickly and the groups are big so seeing everything and asking questions can be a littl edifficult but in general the catacombs were cool to experience adn the guides were informative More

We made our way here on the public bus and then walked the rest of the way and it was quite easy. The walk up was via a feild with sheap and it was a bit hot but a nice walk. We found the tour quite interesting and we learned quite a bit. Being down there was a bit short... More

It's rather likely that one's experience here may hinge on the guide assigned to you. Luckily for us, we were fortunate and had an excellent one (a Brother from the Philippines) who provided us with heaps of information about the catacombs. I was a bit disappointment that most of the remains have been moved from the site. (we were told... More

This was a very interesting trip back through time. Guided tour at the site definitely helped make things clearer. It was a little creepy, and definitely not for the claustrophobic. I would visit again. More
