I highly recommend to get a tour guid or a book to inform you of what you are looking at otherwise, the significance decreases. It was quite an impressive sight but then most of Rome is very impressive.

This is one stop that I always make when I go to Rome. Easy to get to by the Metro, worth the trip. There is a beautiful courtyard in front of the Basilica. The Basilica itself is beautiful.

I personally find this one of the four major basilicas to be the least inspiring. It always seems to me to be a bit cold and gloomy, but is worth a visit.

Not as richly decorated as many of the other big churches, but has some amazing things that make it memorable - its sheer size, portraits of all the Popes from Peter to Benedict XVI encircling the upper part of the church and the the tranquil cloister/garden areas.

Well worth the time and effort to go and see this. No much effort though as it is within a few minutes of the metro. What a great site when you enter the building you will gasp!
