Although 3 euros isn't a lot of money, I'd rather be charged that at the door than forced to make a "donation". The museum was quite interesting, not a necessity, however I really don't like being coerced into making a "donation" before I had even seen the museum. More

We were really looking forward to visiting this museum as it promised so much. Our problem was that there was no English leaflets (all used up) and any multi language translation on exhibits is negligible - the odd english word. For non Spanish or English speakers this would be hopeless. The models of ships are superb and exhibits on display... More

As Naval Museums go, this one was not the greatest. We had a "Madrid Card" which included the museum on it's "included" list but on arrival we were told that the museum entry was Free but they needed a donation. We gave 10 Euro but were handed back 4 Euro and a receipt for 3 Euro each. The exhibits themselves... More

Not crowded, you can take your time, and see everything. I like it this way. Not so popular for tourists, but if you are interested in boats, wars, guns, it is the place for you (or your husband). More

The Madrid Naval Museum (Museo Naval de Madrid) is overshadowed by the fame of the big three art galleries (Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza) nearby. This museum is operated by the Naval Museum Foundation (Fundación Museo Naval). It is located in the Spanish Navy Headquarters building, just 600 metres north of the Prado Museum. It is much more compact than... More

From what I had read, I expected something significant about the Spanish Armada or more info about Spanish history in general. It seemed to be more tied into the working of the Spanish Navy in more recent years. There are some beautiful items here however, and the minimal "donation" requested on entry can make it a worthwhile place to spend... More

I stopped here and ended up spending nearly an hour nosing through the exhibits. There are extensive displays of many naval related memoribilia, from old swords, flags, and pistols to torpedoes. Worth the donation! More

This museum shows the maritime history of Spain. It starts with the voage of Columbus and his discovery of the New World. There is a large painting called “First Tribute to Columbus”, painted in 1892 by Jose Santiago Garnelo y Alda, which is very beautiful. At the entrance there are paintings of King Alfonso XIII and his wife Maria Cristina.... More

I have walked past this museum several times over the years, always lacking time to go in. But my last trip I was able to enjoy it for an hour or so. I have NEVER seen such interesting models and the displays are fascinating as well. Being surrounded by massive paintings depicting disembarkings and wars was very impressive and made... More
