On a nice day while visiting Madrid, do yourself a favor and have lunch and drinks at the Plaza de Santa Ana. There are many bar and restaurant options to sit outside and enjoy the Spanish atmosphere and diversity of people. It's relaxing and pure entertainment.
The Plaza Santa Ana is a nice little plaza with many tapas places nearby, most of them with local character and very traditional. The plaza also has the ME Melia, an avant garde hotel wth a very well known bar. There are many traditional shops in the area, such as shops selling clothing material for women who like to sew.
This plaza has great a great atmosphere. Even in the cold of February, everyone was out on the sidewalks eating or having a drink. It felt very safe.

Fantastik atmosphere and a lot of nice restaurants around. If you want to see all of Madrid you have to get on the roof top of the ME Madrid Reina Victoria Hotel at Plaza St. Ana. This is a great location at night.

The restaurant Tartufo was especially good with very professional and knowledgable staff who spoke perfect English. So many choices around this plaza and it is...

Really good atmosphere and some lovely restaurants. We went to the Villa Rosa Tapas Bar which had flamenco dancing although it was 22 euro to watch
Our Madriliana friends said it was touristy! but we went once to try all the different bars and tapas around the square and see a different part of Madrid. We were recommended to go during the day time! Enjoyed trying the different beers and wines and tapas....
