The specialty seems to be nuts- they use a 150 year old roaster to do the on-site roasting. It looked like you could purchase by weight, but they also have prepackaged bags of different sizes, which was convenient for those who'll be taking these home. Finding our way to those tapas mentioned on the guidebooks, we stopped by at at Casa Gispert (E&A Gispert) - a hidden treasure not too distinguishable by our source of info. They have been selling good quality local produce for 160 years. And they are not over-marketing their legacy, probally too under-marketing it, actually. We selected nuts, dates and cookies... More

After a little searching, we finally found this wonderful shop. It is immediately west of the church of Santa Maria del Mar in the El Born/La Ribera neighborhood. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, providing great suggestions about local/nontouristy nearby sights to visit.
