We visited on a fairly cold, windy day. It gave the place that lonely "Don Quixote" feel. Before we left the castle, a big tour group came and a few people were dressed in period costumes to give them a tour of the place.

Loved the windmills, even got to go inside one that was open as a gift shop. Windmills are right next to a fortress built in 1200's.

Cool because the windmills represent the whole Don Quixote illusion. Almost better viewed from a distance that close up. We drove up and walked around but only stayed a short time.

The famed WinmillsThe of Don Quixote fame are the big attraction here. There is also a castle that is in good condition on the hill above the town where you'll also find the windmills.
The town below isn't worth stoping for.

While there is not much else to see, the row of windmills here is definitley worth the side trip from Toledo.

We drove about an hour south of Toledo in hot weather to see the 11 windmills surrounding an old castle ruins. We thought it was worth the drive for a memorable site. You can drive right up by the windmills or hike up a little ways.

Beautiful town famous for its windmills. Make sure you see the medieval fortress where El Cid's son, Diego, died in battle in 1098. Also famous for its azafrán (saffron).

We stayed overnight in Consuegra on the way from Granada to Madrid. Stayed in a wonderful country house, La Vida de Antes, very worthwhile. Arrived 1 hour before sundown, was able to see the castle and the windmills. There are fields all around the town, not sure of the crop. Not too much to the town, not alot to see...

If you are staying in Toledo or Madrid, it is worth the trip to check out the windmills in Consuegra. Consuegra is home to the famous windmills that supposedly inspired Miguel de Cervantes (the author of Don Quixote). There isn't much else in the town, so I recommend only spending a little time there.
