Not the best zoo in the Ruhr-Rhein region but certainly a trip worthwhile. The planners have certainly made the most of the space they have available and animal welfare appears to be very on the list of priorities. Located close to the Rhine, this is a great experience for kids and couples alike and the asking price for entry isn't...

If you like elephants this is a nice herd and there were 5 babies to see on the day of the visit!

It's a great day out, lots to see, you can spend the whole day in the zoo. And not expensive at all for entrance.

Getting to the zoo from the Cologne central station is quite easy. The zoo is smaller than the Duisburg zoo. It is a place to take the little ones, but I have seen better. Kids loved this zoo, it's big and houses a lot of large cats, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, apes etc. My tip is to combine it with the cable car that leaves from opposite the Rhine as you get discounted prices for both.

If you have children, you have to bring them there. Go on 16:00, when the price is reduced (the zoo closes on 18:00, 2h are enough, but don't take on 17:00, 1h is not enough!)
There is also a playground, which is also pretty good.

It was a sunny Spring Sunday in Cologne and the zoo was very busy. This wasn't a problem, though! Despite being relatively central in the city, there is plenty of room for animals and visitors. There is a large selection of animals and they are easy to watch in their enclosures. The enclosures are excellent - especially the Elephant Park,...
