I don't like heights but I don't like to miss out on things either. Even though there is a grate underfoot so that you can see the empty space below, I didn't find that such a worry. Rather the wind was very, very strong and the platforms were moving about considerably (or so it felt to me). The wind rushes... More

I am usually afraid of heights. When I first saw the pictures of the Alpspix at the time we were building our itinerary for our Germany trip I was not quite sure if I would be able to handle walking and standing on the platform. From the research prior to our trip (thanks to Trip Advisor!) I was able to... More

The AlpspiX observation platform high in the Bavarian Alps on Alpspitz Mountain, next to Zugspitz. Zugspitz it the highest point in Germany therefore it is in the clouds more often than not. Many people traverse to the top of Alpspitz for the unbelievable view. Walk out on one of the two observation platforms that jut out over the mountain top.... More

One of the best experiences in Garmisch. It's very exciting to ascend there as it's a precipice just under your feet....

A storm was brewing. The platform was electrified. As you walked to see the view your hair literally stood on end. Awesome. The guy supervising the platform politely asked everyone to leave the platform as a storm was approaching. We sat in the restaurant for an hour as the rains came in. I ate sausage and fries and drank a beer.... More

There was a time when it was great visiting this place. This was before the plattform was build. Over the last years mass tourism has destroyed lots of the beauty. Ski lifts and slopes every where and the area has become noisy and way to busy. So if you want to go for a nature walk and enjoy the beauty... More

If you go to the AlpspiX, then once you have done the viewing platform do walk down to the lower cable car down the mountain. About 45 minutes to first resturant, then another half an hour to the cable car. Do stop and relax in the swings half-way down - the silence is golden. Plenty of things, on route, to... More

Breath taking views of the valley and other mountains. Walk round the summit trail for panoramic views as well as the X. The platform moves slightly when people walk on it which adds to the experience. Follow the pleasure trail down to the Kreuzeckbahn for spectacular scenary and a fairly easy walk.
