Most people will stumble upon this and elect to ride it to the castle. I encourage this idea but as a tip, don't waste money going to the very top. You will lose time you could have spent doing better things like climbing to the top of the hill across the way along the philosophers way. I rate a 3... More

We used the funicular to get to the castle. We went to the Molkenkur as well because it was included in the ticket, but not much there. Only a place to get a snack and the transfer to the historical tram. Nice way to get to the castle and back without climbing the hill. The funicular ticket includes entrance to... More

Lower part is modern one, but from Molkenkur to Konigstuhl old authentic wagon is travelling. Nice to try and on top you'll find spectacular view!

To see the Heidelberg Castle, take the funicular for a neat ride up the hill. Park in the #12 garage and gain direct access to buy tickets for the funicular and castle courtyard there for 6 euro per person. Well worth the ride for a unique experience.

I'd not planned for a trip up to the hill top on railway wagon ( funicular ) and just stumbled on it. It was an excellent experience. A modern train takes one up to half the way crossing the castle. Then one shifts to a vintage wagon made of wood. The driver, a middle aged lady in our case, manually... More

The road up is so steep , it was a little pricey but when I saw the hill so worth it. Easy to use plenty of seats, clean

The staff at this place were very rude and I wished I had just walked to the Castle rather than taking the Funicular. For the fit an healthy the walk to the Castle is not bad at all.

spent the money for the tram and got off at the castle. Around 4:30 pm, got back on the tram and it would not take us any further upwards because it was already dark(2 more stops). did not get to get on the old funicular. was a bit annoyed. don't bother paying if you aren't getting an earlier start because... Up to the castle and wonderful grounds. You also get to see a bit of a museum recounting the history of the Bergbahn.

We went right to the top, great views over the Neckar valley and Heidelberg. Good place to start hiking from at the top. Do not use it to go to the castle, much better to walk up ( unless you cannot manage all the steps 300+). Can get very busy, so go early.
