I just went on the tour yesterday with the group Kooridor by the USO. It is one of the only groups which allow you in the JSA. This tour is a must. I was able to step foot in North Korea, my heart was racing when I stepped out the doors and saw North Korea and a soldier looking back...

No question about it, If you visit South Korea you have to visit the DMZ. I have gone on two separate tours and tour companies and the best one that I have been on was the one through an American Air Force Base. I would recommend taking that route if it is possible. It is pretty simple, you just need...

Firstly you can not come to Korea without going to the DMZ, it is a surreal expereince but a must for all visitors. It was difficult to book from abroad. Use this email address - Bentley is very helpful bentley@koridoor.co.kr. The tour costs US$80 which is expensive but worth it. You get to visit the JSA which is not included...

This is a must go if you are in Korea and if you are a fan of History. You will actually get to visit one of the tunnel that the North Korean dug, trying to infliterate South Korea. This is where you could still feel the tension and the seriousness of this zone.
However, one tip to take note.
Please...

You cannot come to Korea and now go on a tour. The Soldiers at the JSA are true professionals and give a top notch tour and presentation. If you get a chance, go to the tunnel as well. Be prepared to do the old man stoop if you're taller than 5'2" as the tunnel is not very high in some...

Okay, let's face it. The tour is what it is. Government organized, all operators feed their guests to the freedom bridge "terminal" from where you take the bus into the DMZ.
But when you are there, you have to see this and immerse yourself into the reality of the cold war which is still very much alive in Korea and...

Good:
This is as close to North Korea as you can get. Great if you are into history and/or war.
Bad:
It can be really boring/unexciting if you are not a war/history buff. If you want to get really to the border, the JSA/Punmumjeon tour is the one to go. The 3rd tunnel is really STEEP, it is very tough...

I took the USO Tour to the DMZ/JSA and 3rd Tunnel, as it was recommended by others and is one of the few that actually visits the JSA. What are these terms?:
DMZ - Demilitarized Zone that is 4km wide and stretches from coast to coast across the Korean peninsula. The border runs along the center of it. Only parts...
