This latest addition to Menton's attractions has been very well thought out. The ultramodern building reflects Cocteau's somewhat fragmented career and suggests his love of sunlight and the sea. It carefully does not obstruct anyone else's view of the coast and is probably worth a photo essay on it's own.

The new Cocteau museum (running in parallel with the original small museum in the fort at the port of Menton) is a gorgeous building -- see it when driving along the front West to East -- it looks like a mermaid's dream risen from the sea, and is one of the most glorious praises to France's inventive approach to culture....

This museum is really in two parts; the smaller one is housed in the old fortress overlooking the harbour, and is well worth a visit, though it won't take you long.
