Really pretty, unusual and interesting town. The main attractions for us were the half-timbered houses supported on wood pillars, creating a magnificent covered arcade. There are lovely individual shops within the arcade. Well worth an hour or two if you are in this part of France.

If you're going to Mirepoix then try to go on a Monday morning to take in the market at the same time. You'll be able to buy local produce and enjoy a cup of coffee in the old medieval square. Don't forget to take a peek in the church which is typical of the region. If you're interested they have... More

I had been looking forward to visiting Mirepoix – but was actually a little disappointed. The bastide layout of the old village is quite well preserved and the town still has one of the original gates and many of the original houses and wooden arches around the central square, but the beauty of it all is somewhat disturbed by oversized... We were coming from Gruissan sur Plage just going for a drive. Mirepoix was our turn around point. Glad we went there.its a medieval town with in the center a wonderful square with restaurants and shops all around. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. It is not a place to walk in high heels. We enjoyed our visit.

A medieval village good for lunch or as a base for exploring the region. Mirepoix mostly consists of a well preserved square with restaurants and shops. It's the perfect place for an ice-cream, meal or just to relax with a beverage. Mirepoix is an easy and scenic drive to Carcassonne with rolling green hills and vineyards. If you are interested... The central square in Mirepoix is well worth a visit. at first glance it is quite touristic with shops and cafés all around. Lovely medieval buildings with overhanging first floors. My American friend asked if it was all 'real'. i think she thought it had been built specially - Disney style!!! On a nice day it's a great place to... More
