Our two teenagers loved the Citadelle (as did we). We arrived at noon and were chased out at closing at 6 pm. So much to do, even for teens. We spent 90 minutes or so in the museum of deportation and resistance. Then a quick snack at the rather paltry snack bar (only a cheese sandwich option for vegetarians). But... More

This was a perfect place to visit with my toddler. There were lots of exciting animals: exotic birds, monkeys and lemurs, and large fish. It's a bit crazy to round the corner of this medieval tower and come across kangaroos. Since we were with the little one, we mainly looked at the animals, but there were some other museums which... La Citadelle is a wonderful fort désigned and build by Vauban . We can admire from the remparts the city of Besançon . The most interesting Muséum to visit is the one about Résistance and the horror of the war between Germany and France but other countries memories are mentioned as well . The most completed Museum of Resistance in... More

It is a place to be when you have children and the weather is nice. Kids will enjoy all the animals in the park.

A fun zoo with a few surprise animals...baboons living in the moat! But the insectarium and aquarium gave great information about the local habitat. Also, the Musee de la Resistance was very interesting and informative...my children have been asking about Nazis in France ever since....

Very interesting citadel with good presentation of history of region (museum) and of the site itself. Astounding to see what was built so long ago.

this impressive structure way up on the hill is quite amazing - one wonders how on earth they built it, and today it is well preserved and gorgeous, with a small zoo and aquarium inside

Allow several hours and don't go in the winter when all the animals are indoors or the viewing rooms are not open to the public

As others have said you could spend the whole day at the Citadel. There are a great many things to see and it is definitely worth a visit. I'd only add a warning for those considering viewing the Resistance Museum. I recall it being all in French with some German. The exhibition is of a desperate and violent period. I... More
