With the dawning of the Renaissance, the mighty medieval fortress of Amboise gave way to a royal residence, during the reigns of the Kings of France Charles VIII and François I. The Court, a large number of men and women of letters and European artists, stayed here on invitation from the sovereigns, one example being Leonardo da Vinci who lies here in peace in the Château’s Chapel.This place of high renown in the History of France boasts an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture illustrating the artistic finery of the first French Renaissance. After a visit of the Royal House and the impressive Cavalry Towers, the walk continues in the magnificent panoramic gardens overlooking the Loire river.

We visited Amboise in the pouring rain in May, however if I can have lasting memories of this place as being so beautiful in such horrible weather then it must have promise! It is a lovely town with the Chateau overlooking a string of Restaurants and shops. I liked the lay out of the town and everything was in reach....

It's a very interesting Chateau and chapel (where da Vinci's crypt is located). There is a self-guided tour through the Chateau itself, where you'll find some very grand rooms, lots of history, and see some spectacular views. The grounds are quite nice to walk as well. Purchase one of the Chateau Cards from the Tourist Center for a discount.

An easy visit with a few interesting rooms. One is St. Hubert’s chapel with an appealing lacelike ceiling and the grave where Leonardo’s body MAY have been reburied. There are great views overlooking the Loire from the top of the tower and from the gardens. This is probably a good chateau to take younger children…there’s a little bit interesting for...

Lots to see, not crowded. Great interior rooms in chateau. Beautiful chapel. Excellent views of town and the river.

10 euros to get in. well worth it. Beautiful building. very informative . beautiful artefacts. Gardens very well kept.

We almost didn't visit this chateau. Thank goodness we did. So much happened here. Many kings grew up here and visited regularly. Don't miss it!!

Surprised. by modern decor and bright green. Thought it would be another 15th century restaurant since it was attached to castle. Food was very good and reasonably priced.

What an experience. Growing up i thought that castles with their facade and enormity were some amped up make-believe structures like their ridiculous stories.
