Having visited the IWM in London twice previously as well as Duxford and RAF Hendon, i assumed that this one, being smaller than those previously mentioned, would be as good. In many ways this is the case but it absolutely doesn't mean it isn't good in its own right. The displays are excellent and informative. The museum is free and... More

Quite a good museum, with lots of interesting features. It's a definite for people interested in the Wars. I would return.

The IWMN invariably serves up well thought out and constructed temporary exhibitions to complement the main museum space. We've visited on several occasions to experience their latest offerings and always come away with a feeling of having learnt something new. Beautiful setting, too, perfect for experiencing the rest of Salford Quays with The Lowry Theatre, Lowry Outlet Mall and MediaCity... More

Great building. Fantastic exhibits. Friendly staff. Parking is pricey and it costs £1.20 (60p kids) to go up the viewing tower. The shop is cool and they do really good work with schools and kids. Nice cafe, too. Well worth a visit.

Excellent displays, starting with a jet at the entrance to the main room. Worth going now to catch the temporary exhibition of medical/nursing contribution since WW1. Unfortunately lift was out of order so we couldn't manage to see the view from near the top. Architecturally very interesting. As you follow the signs, you read a potted history of the world... More

We went to the The Imperial War Museum North by tram to Media City, from there its only 5 minutes walk. The view from the top of the museum is fantastic, and you get to feel the size of Manchester. I Like the museum, because it does not contain much text to read but has many exciting things to look... More

There is really very little to see, compared to the Imperial War Museum in London. Annoying video images displayed on the 'walls' every now and then, plunging the rest of the exhibits into darkness; and with too loud commentary. No apparent chronology so unless you already had an idea of the history of World War 1 onwards, then you would... More

Good respresentation of the history of war. Make sure you take a trip to the top of the observatory for a view of Manchester.

Found the exhibits very interesting, though the lighting for some of the displays was inadequate, which spoiled it a bit. However, considering entry is free we spent an enjoyable couple of hours. They also have lockers which was handy as we had our overnight bag with us, having arrived in Manchester too early to check in to our hotel. Easily... More

In comparison with the IWM in london, this is just an empty 'shed' with 'stuff' projected on the walls. There are just not enough exhibits. The MOSi is far, far better and that's threatened with closure. Better by far to close this pretence at a museum and turn the space into a car park!!
