Go early in the morning so you get to see the seals basking on the rocks. There is a charge to go out on the boat we paid €12 return per adult. If you are bringing children haggle for their price as we have 4 under 5 yrs we only paid €12 for them all! Then a further €10 charge... More

We went to Garnish Island during Easter Holiday 2012. It was a great trip. The gardens are amazing. You simply walk around and feel like if you were travelling around the world. Some parts look like jungle, with colourfull strong sweet smelling flours that you thought could only exist in movies. We spent good few hours there and even kids... More

If you are near Glenngariff, you must take the opportunity to visit Garnish Island. We walked the grounds the middle of April and the trees and shrubs were just beginning to open their blossoms. I think in May it must REALLY be beautiful!! We took the Harbour Queen Ferry and the fare was quite reasonable (about 10 Euro for seniors,... More

Beatifully landscaped island off Glangariff. Spent hours there with great views. Reasonably priced guide book gives a good history of the island. On the down side 25 euro for three of us to go out by boat was steep and wasnt helped by different private contractors vying for clients. Kids loved the seals on the way to the island More

Garnish Island, in the harbour of Glengarriff in Bantry Bay has delightful gardens, with plant specimens from around the world. We visited the entire island in about an hour, but could have easily spent two or three hours there. The children enjoyed running around the island. There is a cafe, but it closes early, so don't count on it. The... More

Garnish is heaven on a summer's day, the boat trip out passes by seals basking on the rocks and then the island gardens are idyllic, definitely worth a visit. More

beautiful gardens - great day trip. The trip out to the island by boat is almost worth the trip alone with seals lazing on rocks - a lot of the experience is weather dependent, but the gardens are magical and cover the whole island without being too big. I revisit this place every few years and each time there is... More
