Visited Mellis's on my last trip to Edinburgh. Bought my dad his favorite Vacherin cheese and spotted a cheese with black stuff on the rind and asked the assistant about it. The friendly woman said it was called Marc de Raisin and that the black stuff was grape skins from the first wine pressing. Thought it sounded interesting so bought... More

Excellent cheese - even though small, very good selection. Buy some oatcakes and have a picnic!

I cannot believe I am reviewing a cheese shop, but it was such a good experience that it was worth recommending. A small, very pungent shop, who rounds of assorted cheese piled high. The server was very happy to discuss the merits of the various types of cheeses, and I could easily have spent large amounts had we not been... More

An excellent selection of cheeses and related foodstuffs are available in this wee shop on Victoria Street, just off the Grassmarket. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and helped steer us towards a cheese which suited our tastes. Nice to that shops like this still exist.

Popped in on a mini break and adored the cheese from here, the lady was incredibly knowledgeable & friendly! Will be going back before the weekends over!

Ian Mellis' cheese shops have become Edinburgh institutions. If you love cheese, this is THE place to come. As well as Victoria Street, there are also branches in Morningside and Stockbridge.
