Close to the Royal Mile but a genuine Scottish bar where people appreciate talented musicians. Some nights are traditional singing - old folk songs and contemporary. Other nights are acoustic fiddle, guitar, flute and bagpipes. There are special folk sessions on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The bar sells coffee and has wifi and a book exchange. Small seated area and the rest is standing area. « less

We liked that they have music on the early side on occasion and not just starting at 9:00 PM. There is limited seating and if you do get a seat, you'll likely have people standing on top of you shortly. More

Great pub, live music every night, brilliant friendly staff and customers. Do yourself a favour and look up this pub in edinburgh and Pam will look after you as she did two mancunians in February. Excellent. More

The Captain's is a long thin bar. Its small size is part of the appeal and offers an escape from some of the larger anonymous pubs, which get so crowded at busy times. It ticks all the boxes for me: welcoming staff, friendly atmosphere, a couple of cask ales on tap against a backdrop of banter and acoustic music. Regulars... More

Don't really want to tell anyone about Captains as then everyone will go! The best live folk music in the capital. Comfortable, great crack, good beers & wine. Lovely staff all managed by the amazing Capt. Pam herself! More

Great little pub - made to feel really welcome by all the staff and locals. Music was superb. Gave me a feel for the 'real' Edinburgh. Can't wait to go back one day soon. More

Just a great place to go either on your own or with friends. If you go on your own you wont leave without making new friends like Pamela and her staff or just other punters and musicians. Thoroughly recommended. More

The decor in Captains Bar is like stepping back in time, many of the original features are still there. The bar is small but huge in atmoshere and hospitality, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The musical entertainment is very good also, when I was there a guy was sitting at the piano making up very witty songs... More
