A first time visit on recommendation and we wasnt disappointed, every corner turned a little bit of history came to mind, nice displays and artefacts on show a great deal of time and effort have gone into this collection. Can understand children enjoying a visit to this museum ie interaction with some displays so being bored is not an option... More

Had a couple of hours to fill on a wet Saturday and this was a good venue. If you like battles, war and all that's associated with that, the museum explains global battles with nice displays. Lots of artefacts on display with some interesting stories.

I have to agree with some of the other reviewers--this museum has an incredible collection, but does a terrible job of putting it in context. Also there are some odd distractions, such as the Oriental gallery, which isn't integrated at all. There were two powerful exhibits: One was done by teenagers, and their response to violence in the streets. The... More

Have been at least 6 times and will go again. I'm particularly interested in the Napoleonic wars, and there's plenty for me to study and learn. It's sufficiently visual, modern and vibrant to keep kids entertained, and the cafes and shops are great too.

This museum really impressed us for three things - content, layout and flexibility. Very good eating areas ensure you can spend as long as you like and remain well fed and watered. However, there is also an excellent picnic spot - indoors - making it an amazingly cheap day out for a family - the whole museum is free. It... More

All of this and for free. A full day for both adults and children alike. Our return visits unearthing things that we missed previously

In april, my 14-yo son and me went to visit Liverpool, York, Leeds and Manchester. Of course we visited this museum. I had already been there ten years ago, but I was still amazed of the quality of the collections and the presentation. For my son it was also a thrill and one of the better military museums he had... A good afternoon will be spent wondering around this cracking museum. My 5 year old son loved the crossbow shooting - £3 for 8 bolts and my 2 year old girl loved the life size horses, elephant, tigers and jesters play area. I particularly enjoyed the modern warfare section and 007 gun cabinet. Amazingly the entrance is free and a... More

Free entry, staff were really helpful, lots of seats dotted around the museum and the small collapsible stools located at strategic points were very useful for my wife who was suffering from a bad back. We did about four of the available talks and all were excellent, with the war time experiences delivery by the two Andys with passion, conviction... More
