Visited here several times over the year. Very interesting building. Excellent collection of pre raphaelite paintings. Good display of some of the Staffordshire hoard jewellery. Easy to get around, good access. Need to allow lots of time, because you discover new pieces. Good shop as well. I bought some cuff links. This place is always a pleasure.

A excellent free resource to those of us who live in the Midlands and love art and history. I visit the Birmingham Museum & Gallery every couple of years or so, and never fail to find something new of interest to admire.

This museum and art gallery has shown some real treasures in its time, such as the Staffordshire Hoard, but the gallery itself is a treasure not to be missed. I've been visiting this museum both as a lone art fan and with my wife and children over the years and we're all the richer for that experience, I'm sure shared... More

The museum was free, although I did buy a map for £1.00 but this isn't necessary. I visited the Edwardian tea room which was really pretty and had a nice cake! There were some lockers which cost £1.00 (non-refundable) which I used and were fine. I mainly spent time on the top floor, at the history of Birmingham section. It... More

My husband and I recently visited the Museum and Art Gallery even though neither of us are art lovers. I am glad that we went but would not be in any hurry to go again! I was pleased to see the Staffordshire hoard but it was a let down as there is not much on show!

We went to check out the Preraphaelites, there are a couple of rooms for these, but what we will remember are the wonderful rooms. Some of them were fantastic with roof domes and lots of decoration in glass and metal from the end of the 19th C.

I live in Birmingham and sometimes we forget that we have a wealth of art on our doorstep, I used to visit the museum at times in my lunch hour to catch any exhibits I wanted to see. A great facility for Birmingham and a must see.

City museums tend to be hit and miss at times whether they will be good or not and thankfully Birmimgham proved to be the former. This large museum situated in a perfectly themed building houses a wide variety of different collections and themed rooms over a few floors. It is not just the city museum but also the city art... We went here to escape the rain. Free entrance was a bonus. Great Pre-raphaelite collection, Burne Jones, Dante Gabriel Rosetti etc Would have like to have seen more of the Staffordshire Hoard but that is on tour at the moment
