Went on a rainy afternoon not really expecting very much after being recently in a couple of the London Museums but found it absolutely brilliant - very do-able and not as overwhelming as some of the larger places. Great layout and some very interesting exhibits, we thoroughly enjoyed it. More

Went during the Summer Holidays , and the museum was full of children, which, of course should be a good thing. In practice, I found that too many of them were running around, being too young to make much of the exhibits, which was a shame. I would recommend you go when the schools aren't off. Good displays, some from... More

Really like the imput to this revised museum and the way old displays have been put to better use. Loved the Roman Wall exibits and way that this important period has been displayed. More

The recently refurbished museum has amazing exhibits, keeping some of the old taxidermy and animal displays and the ever popular mummy (dead woman in a glass box, eugh!) but adding really fun interactive displays that entertained me and my 3 year old cousin equally. The Egyptian afterlife display is one in particular to go and see More

Sells a varied amount of food both hot and cold. Childrens menu does not appeal to my grandchildren, no they do not thrive on junk food! Had to resort to adult menu eg jacket potato for them. Staff although pleasant, do not seem to be very well trained. More

This museum give interesting information about the region, its history and nature but it is quite small. I enjoyed the part about Hadrian's Wall but I think that the exposition is too much centered on the nature of the region, showing for example animals that can be easily seen in the nature - it os not necessary to go to... We thought the museum was informative, child friendly and had some amazing exhibits, like the mummy that still had a mass of hair and is very well preserved. There are a lot of interactive displays and a great shop with an extensive range of goods starting from less than a pound. Entry was free! More

I took my two children on a spur of the moment visit as good old British weather was its usual wet self!! Wasn't sure what to expect from a free museum but actually both of my children really enjoyed it. Finding somewhere suitable for a three and seven year old is not always easy!! My three year old loved looking... More
