I liked the quality of the food and the fact that is was often locally sourced and I liked the fact that it was part of a long tradition of hospitality for the order that runs the school.

I visit many times for walking and then going into cafe for lunch - beautiful scenery. The Abbey is very interesting and a lovely looking building and at certain times you can have tours - they now make a good ale.

It is worth coming into this valley, where Ampleforth Abbey and College are located. Fee entrance with a plenty of parking available. Very interesting small museum about Abbey, Team room with good service. Architecture is fantastic.

The tearoom here is excellent. We had the best ploughman's lunch ever. As a visitor attraction, I found it lacking however. Dropped lucky with a lovely crisp day. Grounds and buildings were stunning although unfortunately the shop was shut. Well worth a visit for a bit of peace and quiet,

Stayed in the College accommodation whilst on a music course in the main buildings. Beautiful, tranquil surroundings - a calm environment away from the 'madding crowd'. Good, basic food, welcoming monks and lay-workers who genuinely wish to share their 'space' with visitors. A great place just to wander and be still.
