The gentleman who was the official there gave us lots of information on the school and the pupils, which brought it alive. Fascinating place.

We were told about the old grammar school when we were visiting Hawkshead last week. The gentleman there brought the place to life with his information. Fascinating place with carved desks and walls done by students who used their quill-sharpening penknives to great effect.

lovely place, felt like I went back in time as a school child of long ago, the children were facinated with the history of this school with all its desks and the way kids were taught in those days, so lovely to have a magical imagination of times gone by and learning its history

A small building, but it has a wealth of historical exhibits inside - well-worth the small entry charge.

It was very interesting to see this old school which has many of the original desks and benches from 400 years ago. One can still see Wordsworth's name carved into one of the desks along with hundreds of other boy's names.

This is truly a great place to visit - full of history of the most interesting kind. Do ask about the headteachers!! Good value and very good guide. Hawkshead is well worth a few hours so spend some of this in the grammar school. It is not large and does not take long but evokes a human side of history... More

This was worth it as they had a guide to give you information of what it was like to go to school then. Woodsworth went to school here. Fascinating history.

If you are an educator or have an interest in History, this is a wonderful place to visit. It is an actual school house from the late 1500's. There are some great surprises here, and the cost of 2.50 (lbs) is very reasonable.
