We wanted to visit this place after watching "Miss Potter" and weren't disappointed. The countryside around is gorgeous. The house itself is unchanged since Beatrix Potter lived there and is very atmospheric. The problem is that it is too popular, the car park was full when we arrived 40 minutes after open time, and we had to park somewhere else....

Gives a real insight into the simple life that Beatrix Potter enjoyed considering how wealthy she must have been. The National Trust has maintained a very authentic feel to the property with a lovely touch in identifying features of the cottage, inside and out, which appear in her illustrations.

We travelled on the ferry across Windermere to visit this National Trust property, an enjoyable visit (about 45 mins) helpful staff came a welcoming talk, then free to go around the cottage - we went on from there to Grizedale Forest centre, another good place to visit.

The house is small and dark with very few information boards. It is worth asking the stewards questions as they seemed knowledgeable. It is also worth paying for the Guide Book, £4, as this documents the artefacts in the house.
