It stands over the place where Alban, the first martyr, was buried after giving his life for his faith over 1700 years ago.The building itself is a blend of architectural styles spanning a millennia and contains recycled Roman bricks from Verulamium. Of special interest are the 13th century wall paintings, a rare watching loft and the shrines of Saint Alban and Amphibalus, the priest who converted Alban to Christianity. « less

Access to the cathedral is extremely easy and the walk around the cathderal is very quiet and peaceful. I did try to buy a souvenir but found them to be of too poor a quality. I could not find a good photographic book of high quality which recorded the history of the cathedral in paintings, line drawings or photographs which... More

The site of the Church of St Albans is a historic and reverred place of Christian worship since the 4th century with a reputation for miracles of healing since the martyrdom of Alban around 250 AD. Within easy distance from London reached from either St Pancras, Euston or the recently reconstructed Blackfriars Stations it makes a great day trip for... More

Visitors are encouraged to make a 4 pound ($6-ish) donation to the church upon entry. The Cathedral is used by St. Albans School (and others) for choir practice and recitals. The Cathedral is also home to a number of performances throughout the year. In addition to it being an in-use Cathedral, it is a museum to history, architecture and religion.... More

Sitting on the top of a hill, this is a lovely place to visit. It looks large and splendid. No entry fee. The town goes back to Roman times, when it was called Verulamium. The cathedral (formerly an Abbey) is slightly newer! The cafe in the new wing. Very good value meals and teas. We visit regularly, and took our... More

We were able to take a self-guided tour and saw all of the nooks and crannies, as well as catching a choir rehearsal, which really added to the lovely feel of the cathedral. A must-see for anyone visiting St. Albans! More
