I live at the foot of the South Downs way & walk my dogs here most days. A beautiful natural area of the countryside, stunning views & combing sea views with countryside,
What better way to enjoy the Sussex Downs than a walk from Falmer (you can get a train and then walk up through Stanmer Park to Ditchling Beacon)? The view over the Sussex countryside is spectacular and you can end up with a nice cup of tea and cake at Bills in Lewes when you arrive. Regular trains and buses... More

Devils Dyke is also good, pub food is good. If taking a dog there please be aware there are livestock around at a few... More
I have lived next to the South Downs for 30 years. I spend a lot of the summer cycling across the Downs, it is great, the views and the remoteness. There are so many different routes sand I've only cycled less than half. Perfect day out for walking and worth planning for a pub lunch stop.
We started the walk on a warm Sunday afternoon from the Devil's Dyke pub car park and walked down to Poynings and back. The panoramic view was breathtaking. Highly recommended to blow away any cobwebs or worries! (for a while any way!) :)
Goes through some great countryside, great views and peaceful. Close enough to the coast to make it a holiday
An area of natural beauty, have walked parts of it many times and also good for mountain bikers. Beautiful views from the top at any time of year and also fun to visit the Jack & Jill windmills, one of which is a museum to keep the tradition alive.
I have ventured on the south downs for bike rides and believe me there is nothing more relaxing than reaching the top of a hill and taking in the silence. Free and great for most abilities for mountain bike adventure.
