Comprehensive living display of arid Malagasy plants, particularly 'spiny forest' species; attractively landscaped on a level sandy site. All plants labelled, informative display boards, wealth of native fauna living and breeding in the arboretum - lizards, birds etc used to people, so easy to photograph. The Antsokay Arboretum was founded around 1980 by Swiss amateur botanist, Hermann Petignat. The land was reclaimed from an old limestone quarry and brick-making area.
