We did a part of this hike in the fall when things were just starting to turn icy. It is good for all members of the family as there is always something to see at every turn and great photo opportunities. You do have to watch your step at this time of the year but hey, it's the mountains and... More

I did this hike on my own, with my dogs. At first I wondered what I got into as you have to pass by a very loud industrial plant, but once we got past it, the noise disappeared and were soon surrounded by peace and quiet. The trail consists largely of a creek bed and my dogs were thrilled to... More

We signed up for the ice walk which was a nice guided 3 km walk. The guide shared info about the area and did his best to make it interactive. The best part though was running into the men ice climbing on the falls - it was a unique experience. More

This is something to be experienced in the winter - walking on ice - a mountain stream coursing through a narrow gorge. There is also a frozen waterfall and I was fortunate enough to witness ice-climbers. Caution, you should use metal spikes under your boots in order to grip the ice. There are some ancient pictograms on the rock-face. More

Bring your ice cleats when trekking in the winter! It is a nice walk along the creek to the walls where the ice climbing is done. The canyon continues but we did not venture that far down due to the time of day. The leg of the trail from the Grtto Pond parking lot to the canyon takes you past... More

I have been going through Grotto for several years since I was a kid. It is just really interesting to walk through and you always have something to look at. It is a MUST whenever we go to Canmore. It goes really far in so you can keep walking or stop and have lunch at some of the beautiful spots... More
