It was just great !, starting from the big ‘picture frame’ outside facing the wonderful harbour- what an excellent idea !, than the big impressing Maori Sculpture at the entrance, than the nice wooden platform soround the centre which allow you to see more from... We have been there many times, it is always a highlight to take visiting friend or family there. The visitor centre is welcoming, and just enough to see and feel, not to be overwhelimng. It has exciting views across land towards the Manuakau harbour. Feeling like a small taste of New Zealand bush, there is a 20 min or so... More

Overseas guests love it. It showcases what the Waitakere's have to offer. You can learn about the wildlife, and all the surrounding areas. The great staff are there to help you with anything you may want to know. Great walks from here. Great views! There is a really good short length film, showing how special the West is. You can... This centre has a really good feel about it. Spectacular views across the Waitakeres and the Manukau Harbour and around to Auckland City. Walking tracks either starting from the centre or a short drive away including the Hillary Track which is for more experinced trampers. The staff are well informed and helpful. Good displays showing the history of the area... More

Staff are friendly and will suggest walks to suit your needs. They have got some displays on-site that tell you about the local flora, fauna and geology. You can get maps of the various walks in the ranges here. Great views of Manukau Harbour. More

If visiting the Waitakeres, this is a must place to stop at. Here you can get all the information necessary to decide on wheat walks to do and where to go and visit. The observation decks give a good view over the Manukau harbour, and down into the bush below. More

We have taken several lots of overseas visitors along to the Arataki Visitor Centre. The view from the lookout is lovely. There is also an interesting display inside. Information is providing on walking tracks. There a short all weather walking track, suitable for all ages, with labels identifying native trees. More
