On a recent visit to Hobart, we spent a wonderful day at MONA (Museum of Old and New Art). It is an amazing experience from the first time you set eyes on the complex when approaching by ferry, to a final glimpse as you leave in the evening! At once an Art Gallery (splendid), Boutique Brewery (Moo Brew), Winery (Moorilla... More

Mona is a surreal experience. We were firstly blown away by the building which is built into the cliff face below the magnificent art deco home which is now used as the entrance to the museum. Many of the art works are incorporated into the building and the range is vast from the sexually explicit to the scientific, from the... More

We had little idea what to expect and where blown away by the diversity of the exhibitions. The clever lay out ,the variety for all ages and interests of the exhibites and they variety of eating places was amazing. What an inspirational man the owner must be to have had the forsight to plan and buid this great place. We... More

Loved the building, challenged by the art, great cafe and views along the river. A wonderful Hobart experience and as the exhibits change all the time you can go every time you visit Hobart More

From trying to find signage to the entry and walking across a tennis court for access to the entry (a deliberate strategy by its owner who loves tennis) MONA is such a unique experience. I deliberately chose not to research too much about this new Museum wanting to experience it without preconceived ideas. It was so rewarding. There are several... More

We did not know what to expect when we booked the trip to MONA at the Hobart wharf travelling on the very well appointed catamaran of the same name. Out experience was an enjoyable one, the boat ride was comfortable and informative and MONA itself was out of this world - nothing like you may have ever experienced before -... More

We have visited Mona several times since it opened we go and look at a floor at a time as there is so much to take in. The building is amazing. The cross section of art is stunning and at times has shock value. All very thought provoking. More

Words cannot describe how amazing and fantastic MONA is!!!! This Museum / Vinyard / Winery / Boutique Brewrey / Restaurant and Cafe is just excellent for a day put. Book in advance and get the Ferry from Hobart (so there is no drinking and driving) and make your way out there via the river. After taking the 90 odd steps... More

Well, now that Trip Advisor has 'discovered' MONA I suppose the secret bit is no longer true. But since for the majority of foreign visitors who visit Tasmania the goal is wild nature and bush walking, hopefully now many of them will also visit this world-class gallery. My adult son and I spent our last day in Tasmania there and we... More

Like any piece of art, interpretation is an individual reaction. Mona is an amazing building and unlike anything you may find in Australia. The installations are fabulous, amazing, unsettling, disturbing, sickening and inspiring. IPhone replace a traditional guide and offer great insights into all the works. But while some pieces are fantastic others are downright perplexing. A blank white canvas... More
