Nice setting and adventureous climb to the castle located on mountain top. For older people and younger children the path can be challenging in particular after rain or during stormy weather. Nice view of the surroundings. Renovation going on at the moment. Worth the visit. Entry fee.

This was our second visit. The first was in cold cloudy weather but this time it was sunny and clear so the views were amazing. As with all of these castles you need a certain level of fitness to manage the climb up comfortably. There is a thoughtful access ramp to the ticket desk and shop but unfortunately the path... More

Before arriving to Carcassonne I didn't really know anything about the Cathars, nor about their chateaus in the wider area, so my amazement with them was even greater! I haven't been prepared for Cahteau de Peyrepertuse, but when I first saw it in the dim evening light, I was amazed and could barely wait for the next morning to get... More

WOW! I visited Chateau Queribus right before visiting Peyrepertuse. I already was amazed with Queribus, but Peyrepertuse was even more amazing! The castles is more like a small village up-top this massive mountain. These massive castles were not built with modern day technology. I'm just speechless. Definitely worth a visit! I don't think this place is kid friendly if you... More

As you drive through the valley, you may not immediately spy this chateau perched precipitously on the top of its mountain. You will follow other visitors up a winding road with hairpin turns to reach the carpark, which is not at the base of the chateau. I recommend purchasing the English audio guide. It is one of the best audio... More

Great medieval shows in the summer with falconry displays and re-enactments in costume. The walk from the ticket office up to the castle requires decent walking shoes or trainers - the path is rough and quite steep in places and takes about 15 mins. But it is well worth it - with such an extensive area to visit at the... More

We visited on a sunny autumn day, approaching on the leeward side of the rock and as we drove up the winding road, we could see that Peyrepertuse is a remarkable site. We paid to go in and circled round the eastern bluff to where you enter the Chateau Bas. From that point on we were in a very strong... More

To understand the Carcassone Complex, under Pays Cathare, that's the most impressive militar and ancient castle. Imprescindible!

Driving all teh route down from Perpignan to Carcassonne is just amazing. Castle after castle and all impressive. The best one for me Chateau de Peurepetuse. Incredible what people did already 1000 years ago.

I'll agree with many other reviewers when I state that our group did asks each other several times, "How would they have built this?" A difficult climb in parts but not an overly arduous one and well worth the effort. The whole place does retain some sense of mystery, especially as to the many 'why' and 'how' questions that can...
