Your journey begins at the Algoma Central Railway depot in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where you will board our regular passenger service for a day-long rail adventure that combines the rugged mixed forests of the Canadian Shield, experienced on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train, with the boreal forests of the Great Clay Belt region. In marked contrast to the mountainous Shield country, the Clay Belt region, home to the lordly moose, is a combination of level coniferous forests and great inland lakes teeming with northern pike and walleye. « less

I had business in Hearst and because of the snow decided not to drive but to take the train instead. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable cost for a return ticket. In addition, the conductor was extremely pleasant.

This is worth the experience if you have not been to true Northern Ontario. The train takes you north of the city a couple of hours thru Canadian Shield hinterland or alpine type country that is the most hilly in the province to an area in behind Lake Superior Provincial Park on the Montreal River. This area is only accessable... More

This review is for the winter "Snow Train." The winter snow scenes along the route are well worth the trip, even though some of the features of the summer/fall excursions are not offered in winter. (forward facing video from the locomotive; time off the train at Agawa Canyon). Coaches were in reasonably good condition; seats were comfortable, though not luxurious.... More

The scenery was great. I was suprised in the quality of the cars that were used. The web site touted the refurbished cars and these cars were not particularly better than I remember they had before they updated the cars. The web site also stated that there would be a camera that was looking ahead from the engineers view and... More

My wife and I had always wanted to see the Fall colors of southern Ontario by rail, and we finally made the reservations (suggested) and went ahead and did it. Reservations can be made through almost every motel/ hotel in the area, online, by phone, and some discounts are available. The train boards from the station (with plenty of free... More

Do not take this train in october if you want to see leaves. All you will see is snow...in october!!!! Very disappointing!! We knew this was not peak fall colour time, but ..to see no leaves at all..!!!! Only a blizzard in fact. It was just awful!!!

As we were leaving the Soo we began getting light flurries that continued off and on during our train ride to the Agawa Canyon. We were treated to the spectacular beauty of pristine lakes and rivers, beautiful autumn colors and evergreens and spruces covered in snow. We are rail fans and have ridden nearly every train in this country, but... More

We lucked out this fall, and hit the best day for color. The views were spectacular all along the rails, and the train folks made the process (ticketing, loading, dining) effortless. Administratively, this is a well-oiled machine. We sat in one of the newer cars, which seemed more spacious than the others; there are three seats across the width of... More

The Agawa Canyon trip is awesome. We sat in the back seat in car 2 on the way to the Canyon. On the return trip , after the seats were turned we were left facing a wall with very little window or leg space and unable to see anything other than trees whizzing past us. Since the train was full... More

Our late September trip to Agawa Canyon was awesome! Brilliant colors in the trees and beautiful picturesque scenery. The numerous lakes seen along the way were peaceful and looked inviting to this fisherman. In addition, the waterfalls at Agawa Canyon were breathtaking. Well worth the day's excursion. We sat on the street side of the train (vs station side) and... More
