With restrictive hours and seasons, this lovely large park is far too often sealed shut by its big highway gate like some private estate. A pity, since inside is the fascinating covered petroglyph display, and plenty of hiking. I have also heard they have permanently closed one of the best hiking trails around (it goes through the park and beyond,...

I visited this site back around 1958 when it was told that prospectors had found it and at that time it was a very tiring mile and a half in which was only partially exposed. Now you can drive almost all of the way in if you are non disabled. It is great to see at night as I have...

The park is about a 45-minute drive from Peterborough, a lovely ride through cottage country, then about 11 km off the highway. From the interpretive centre, you walk about five minutes through the woods to the petroglyphs, for centuries a sacred site for native peoples of the region. You look at rocks then...

Petroglyphs are rock paintings; the rocks are now enclosed in a gallery to preserve them from environmental stresses. The gallery has a wide walkway around with information availble to explain what the symbols mean. There is an interpretation centre that is worth the price of admission itself. It outlines simply but completely the Native Spirituality and traditions that are illustrated...

Knowledgeable staff take the time to explain the historic petroglyphs, long retained evidence of our native heritage. This is a true mystic place where you can envision the souls of those of the past watching over the souls of the present.
