We heard their was an iceberg near the harbour so drove up to the Cape Spear Lighthouse. We had a fantastic view of the iceberg!! While that was definitely the highlight, the lighthouse was amazing - it is restored to its original look. And there are plenty of walking trails around the lighthouse and grounds. Bring your camera - this... More

I was here in May and it was foggy with about 20 feet of visibility, not to mention windy like crazy, so I didn't get to see much of the seashore. Climbing up to the lighthouse from the parking lot and walking through the fog felt like I was in the video game Silent Hill. The easternmost part of North... More

This is a fun place to kill an hour or two - there is longer walking trails that you can take but for the most part the immediate area is a great place to hike around on a sunny day! More

If you're so close to such a remarkable place, why not visit? About 15 minutes drive from downtown St John's, there are quite a few trails around the area to explore, including old WWII defense outposts. Both old and new lighthouses are high above, and below, you can stand (almost) at the most easterly point in North America. More

See the cliffs and seascapes from Cape Spear and save yourself a trip to Ireland. Great hiking but stay away from cliffs. Fall off and it's good bye. But there are no better views of the Atlantic. Go either way and you're on the East Coast Trail. Can be very windy. Basically an underpublicized (good!) treasure. More

A little ways out of town, but a super place to experience the maritime history of the poor-but-proud British colony, and now the easternmost province of Canada. More
