We had been saving this for the end of our trip, as a much anticipated highlight. (The kids had been looking forward to "lemonade from jam jars"!). I cannot think of a more beautiful place to picnic. It is a bit of a hike from the car park area, but take your time and it is fine. Once you get... More

The Lighthouse Picnic at Ferryland in Newfoundland is something unique, spectacular and tasty! About an hour's drive from St. John's, we parked the car and then walked out on the headland for about 15 minutes -- the fog rolls in fast and the wind can howl so be sure to take long pants and a fleece even on a sunny... If you are traveling anywhere near Ferryland (1.5 hours from St. John's driving on 10 down the Irish Loop), you MUST build in at least a few hours to experience a picnic lunch at the Ferryland Lighthouse. Make reservations first to make sure you can get your picnic lunch. The food is delicious (and plentiful) and the scenary is absolutely... More

A picnic at the Ferryland Lighthouse is a must-do if you are visiting St. John's and driving the Irish Loop. Access is a bit confusing, but we drove past the initial parking lot and parked closer to trail that leads to the lighthouse - this seems like the best thing to do, as it would be a bit of a... More

As a frequent traveler between Europe and the Americas, Lighthouse Picnics was one of the most memorable travel experiences of my life. The only unpredictable thing is the weather, everything else is perfect: the location, the food, the people, being a witness to nature at its most gorgeous best, and the blissful simplicity of it all. Excellent! Great scenery, great food, and great service. We saw tons of whales and seabirds.. and not too many crawly things! We both had a ham and brie sandwich with apple and homemade lemonade and cakes. There is plenty of room to spread out so you never have to be crowded. Would definitely recommend! More

I'd give this 6 stars, if I could. This was totally unexpected. My wife and I were traveling in Newfoundland, driving the "Irish Loop", around the Avalon Penninsula. I had looked for places to explore, and saw this spit of land extending into the ocean, with a road out toward the end. We thought we would hike out to what... More

Christina at Maxxim Vacations raived about the scenery and food at one of NL's newer attractions....Lighthouse Picnics in Ferryland. First let me say that the area is beautiful, it is also the area where you will find the Colony of Avalon. It is below Bay Bulls/Witless Bay on the Irish Loop. We drove by the road and as we turned... More
