This is a very large cemetery very near the ocean. So near in fact, that sometime in it's history, the ocean flooded the cemetery and many of the "inhabitants" were washed out of their "permanent homes". Since that time, a breakwater had been installed to avoid future erosion. Although the cemetery is known for being the resting place of artist... More

It's a cemetery. We walked through it rather quickly, but there were a lot of interesting older looking stones and things. It's a very peaceful place to be in a pretty part of town. More

This was a very wonderful cemetery, so lovely and so much age and history. This large cemetery is located right next to the ocean it has historic headstones, mausoleum, and monuments. It is covered in many large old shade trees making it such a peaceful and serene area to tour. More

The Ross Bay Cemetary is a treasure trove of Victoria history. Early citizens of Victoria such as Emily Carr and Sir James Douglas are buried there. It is a beautiful setting right on the ocean, full of a huge variety of magnificent trees towering over the gravesites. The Old Cemetary Society leads interesting tours through the historic site on Sunday... More

I was walking with a friend in that area, and she asked if I would mind walking through there, as it's where her great-grandparents were buried. It was a sunny afternoon, and it turned out to be a nice, peaceful walk through. We found her family's headstones and also a few historical figures whose names we recognized. I hope to... More

If you want to take the time to search out many of the streets named in our Province and wonder who those people were, well they are likely buried here. I was astounded at the famous people that are laid to rest here. Its a fun walk and lots of people will be doing the same. More

There was a guided walk of the cemetery as part of Black History Month - it was very interesting but VERY COLD! The cemetery is located a nice walk from downtown Victoria, past the cruise ship pier if cruise ship visitors want a change from shopping. There are some lovely old stones in this scenic park. The talk was interesting... More
