Really an interesting little museum. Gives you the history and background of Nanaimo. Good value for the prive you pay for admissions. Friendly staff too which made a whole lot of difference.

I loved the museum and did quite a bit of shopping. Because I was leaving on public transportation, the lady called over a gentleman and they bubble wrapped and secured my breakables. I left for the ferry right after to go to Richmond and my journals were not in the bag. I called them and they mailed my things to... More

A group of us checked out the Nanaimo museum. It was very small inside and the two exhibits were also small. It was neat to learn about the coal mining history of the city. Over all we spent about an hour at the museum. We each paid $2 for admission so it was a decent affordable outing. However I don't... More

Showcases the times of Nanaimo..with lots of local history and island history. Often showcases a travelling art promotion as well Always worth a stop to learn something new whether or not you are a local or a visitor from afar!

Though not as impessive as a large city museum it represented our area well and was interesting. The early Nanaimo schoolroom was fun for me to tell my grandchild about and we sat in the old desks. She learned about ink wells and dressed up in the clothes of those days

A large gift shop with interesting items. The local exhibits (Coal Mining in Nanaimo, and Camping) were both very interesting. My grandfather was a coal miner and once lived in Nanaimo as a young man, so that exhibit was particularly relevant. The camping exhibit was very nostalgic..."we had one of those! and those, and that..."

Yes, our feature exhibit on camping has brought back lots of memories for people! So glad you enjoyed your visit, and thank you for taking the time to give us a review. It is always nice to hear about people's experiences here at the museum, especially when there is a personal connection. Our next feature exhibit (Art Deco Fashions) opens... More

Pleasantly surprised by the Nanaimo Museum. Much larger than I anticipated and very well detailed and laid out. A fun, interactive experience for young and old.

The Nanaimo Museum has nice exhibits which provide an insight into the city. It also has helpful and knowledgeable staff. It is well worth a visit, particularly as one can relax in its very comfortable seats.

Nanaimo was renowned for the quality of coal that was extracted from the local mines. There are archives with several mine shafts that catacomb the area. My grandfather and his co-owner had a mine in the Jingle Pot area during the early 1900's. Many of the shafts are long forgotten as they were never charted. Some area's of building have... More

Nanaimo has a fascinating history that is not apparent when you visit it. The museum helps to provide some colour to this history. It is small, but it is also inexpensive. I enjoyed my visit and felt it was a good primer for visiting Nanaimo.
