They rescue and rehabilitate orphaned monkeys who were victims of the illegal pet trade, poaching, habitat destruction and exploitation. All too often these beautiful, highly intelligent primates become victims when humans and nature collide in a natural paradise like The Riviera Maya. The in-person tours they offer to help support the sanctuary are the very definition of sustainable and ecologically responsible tourism. The owners, Heidi and Joel, are a wonderful couple who originally moved to the area to retire but instead devoted their lives to care for these rescued monkeys. They provide them with an incredible amount of love, individual attention, medical care and specialized diets, all within a beautiful and meticulously well-kept habitat right in their native jungle.Visit in-person to meet the owners and the monkeys, view the facilities and habitat, and see first-hand the level of care that your donation helps provide. Be sure to reserve your tour well in advance, as they allow only a very limited number of visits per week. « less

We were lucky enough that Heidi had an opening as we were on a waiting list, it is well worth the wait! This is a sanctuary and not a tourist attraction, you feel very much like you are visiting a dear family, Heidi lives there with the spider monkeys. We came as a couple with two other couples present everyone... More

What else can be said about this truly wonderful place? Heidi and Joel are incredible people and have created a fantastic place where you get to interact with awesome monkeys. You can see how much they care for the monkeys and just want to create a safe, nurturing environment. My husband and I visited in May, and would go back... More

Just adding to the wonderful reviews of this great place. The couple who own it are wonderful people and truly care about the monkeys. We went as a family of 4 including our 10 year old daughter and 20 year old son and every member of the family loved it. Book it in advance and you will be glad you... More

This was an amazing adventure into the lives of a married couple that have dedicated their retirement lives to providing for and loving over 50 monkeys. My advice is to only do this if you are an animal lover, this is NOT a tourist attraction and is not advertised at all other than Trip Advisor.. You are a guest here... More

We are huge animals lovers so this place was on my bucket list. All in all it was good, monkeys were cute, Joel and Heidi were very nice. Luna bit my boyfriend (you can't tell them apart and Joel and Heidi are supposed to warn you when Luna is around because she doesn't like to be touched, but they weren't... More

We went here a couple of years ago now, whilst in Mexico we swam with dolphins, whale sharks and visited the monkey sanctuary. I must say that although each of them were amazing none had the intimacy of this. They were so inquisitive. There was only me and my wife in with them and Joel took our camera and took... More

This was the best visit during our two week stay in the Riviera Maya. The owners are quite friendly, down to earth, approachable, and completely dedicated to caring for the welfare of numerous spider monkeys, 53 at present. A MUST EXPERIENCE! The drive to this location is strange and off the beaten path, yet fitting as this is truly 24... More

What a wonderful experience. Instead of the typical tour stuff my husband and I like to find something different to experience. The jungle place was it. Heidi and Joel are so nice and are dedicated to helping spider monkeys. They only have tours 2 days a week and are very limited on number of people they allow. You will go... More

This is a must do. There is a reason this is number one, this is not a theme park or a place where you can pay to get a monkey to pose doing silly things on a leash; this is a beautiful sanctuary for rescued and newly born spider monkeys, Heidi and Joel are doing an AMAZING thing in their... More

My wife and I just got back yesterday from Mexico and I had to write this review because The Jungle Place is the best kept secret of Mexico. This was a once in a lifetime experience and I would recommend it to everyone who will be within driving distance of this place. Heidi and Joel were very helpful, friendly, and great... More
