My husband and I visited the Riviera Maya last year to celebrate that we had made it to our 3rd year of marriage. Since we were not staying at a resort for the first couple of days we decided we would try the local foods and any interesting place that trip advisor or my frommers and eyewitness travel books recommended....

We booked this abysmal restaurant for a party of twelve, on the basis of numerous on line reviews. We should have been suspicious that it was more than half empty on the 26th December! First impressions were excellent. The restaurant is in a large and well fitted out natural cave, and we were welcomed and shown to our table adjacent...

My husband and I are experienced travellers and heard about this CAVE restaurant. So we looked it up on the internet and were impressed. It was a special occasion so we dressed a liitle nicer and the cabbie took us directly to the location.
We walked down the steps into a cave lit by luminaria-candles in white paper bags. The...

We went to this place based on a recommendation from the Riu Palace front desk. They called in the reservation for us while we were standing there and gave us a card for 4 free drinks (1 each). Upon arrival they did not have our reservation but seated us quickly as their were seats available. We ordered our drinks and...

Had the occasion to dine in the restaurant with my husband and sister. We heard about the place on the shuttle from our hotel to downtown Playa Carmen. Atmosphere was awesome though the place was a little "air starved". Food was just okay and somewhat pricey compared to other nice restaurants in the area. Will return..but only for cocktails.

So I called our friends and believe it or not his Visa had also been charged 2X with the amounts differing by only pennies....

Exactly as the title says. The cave was incredible. Every color of light imaginable..never seen anything like it. Worth going and taking lots of pictures...the cave restaraunt is insanely huge and beautiful, and I was told they were expanding it even more, and that's why there were places we couldn't go that were blocked off.
The food, on the other...

We went in March and showed up a bit late on a Sunday evening. By this time, all the shows were done, and the staff was a bit annoyed with a group of 8 coming an hour before closing time. (I get it.)
Because nothing was really going on and it was so close to closing time - we felt...

El Alux is one of the most interesting and unique settings in which I've ever had a meal, and I've traveled extensively. Behind an unassuming door on Avenida Juarez, you'll be greeted with flowing water and a stairway lit with luminaries (candles in paper bags), leading the way down under street level.
Upon entering the cavern, stalactites, stalagmites, and underground...
