Wonderful historic city center - so much to see, you will not be able to cover it all in one trip! Best to cover this space on foot - there are several pedestrian only avenues.

Too many sites to visit on one day. You can see Diego Rivera murals at Bellas Artes and Palacio Nacional, old churches and the cathedral, taste delicious food on one of the restaurant´s roofs observing the huuuge size of Zocalo. Start early in the morning to avoid crowds.

This place is just great, the perfect mix of latin culture with european one. Most of the zone is very safe, unless the anarchist groups (AKA YoSoy132) are around. There are tons of places to visit, definitely worth seeing in any visit to this city.

Has its own metro stop called "Zocalo". Great area for photographers, walking, shopping. A visit to the cathedral is a must. Also see the Templo Mayor. Several pedestrian streets. Lots of great ice cream shops from the same chain...Suiza. Have a "nouveau" Mexican lunch at Azul Historico. For seafood, try Danubio. And for street food, a very busy taco stand... More

So very much of what there is to see in Mexico City is right in this historic center of the city. There you will find many museums like the Templo Mayor, the National Palace, Zocalo, the huge Cathedral, many large old buildings, many restaurants including roof top places over looking the Zocalo, many shops, and scads of people walking around.... This is the place to be if you want to see the old part of the city. There are many old buildings, museums, and great restaurants around the area. This is the first place I go to when I visit the DF.

This is one of the most beautiful parts of Mexico City, it is rich in history and the cathedral and huge zocalo are right there in the center. Sad to remember that spanish colonist destroyed the Aztec buildings. .. I reccomend walking down by Madero St. until the Palace of Fine Arts

A group of three of us parked at the far end of Paseo de la Reforma, walked the length, through the Centro Historico, ended at the Zocalo, and returned. And in the Centro is where you'll find the real heart of the city. The buildings and feeling are timeless; looking up you could imagine being 200 years earlier but when... More

There are several self-guided walking tours of the Centro Historico online, we highly recommend just following one. The architecture is beautiful and there are so many little cafes and bars along the way, and classic spots like Cafe Tacuba or Cafe Opera of course.
