I've done this twice but I love it. What's even better is stopping at Dona Carmella's outdoor roadside restaurant where Carmella cooks on a real woodburning stove which makes the food even more"sabroso!"

I visited El Cerro with my nice and friends on the last day we where in Guanajuato. "I had to see him" I told them. We were so busy during the trip to see the POPE that we ran out of time, but I asked the taxi driver to take us there before he dropped us off to the airport....

BIG, but that is about all one can say of this structure of the Christ. We took the long bus ride there and, well, I was ready to leave as soon as I got off of the bus. No offense folks but only interesting if observed from afar.

When you go to Guanajuato a visit to this iconic monument is a must. when you get to the top of the hill, where is located (after 30 min aprox.) you'll have nice views of the Bajio. The "Capilla" inside the "Cristo Rey" is very nice and you feel a deep peace sense!.

Cool place, you can look out over the surrounding countryside for miles and miles. It's amazing at sunset. Be warned though..it can be very cold and windy..even in the dead of summer. Bring a warm coat.

I took a bus to the monument, just 17 pesos. It's only about 10-15 miles from the village of Guanajuato as the crow flies . But it takes about an hour to get there. I visited el Cristo Rey in March 2008 with my mom and aunt(both in their 70's). We took a tour van and as I remember the drive took a little over an hour from Guanajuato. We enjoyed the trip up the mountain as the tour guide popped in a cd and played "Camino de Guanajuato' sung by Jose Alfredo Jimenez.....
