The murals are a memorable experience and a lesson in Mexican history. We were fortunate to have a guide whose passion and insight gave us an understanding that we would not have had otherwise. This guide was also the one who guided President Obama when he visited the Instituto Cultural Cabanas. We discovered Orosco through the unforgettable The Man of...

The inside dome of the Instituto has some of the most stunning murals you will see anywhere in Mexico. Also, a great bookstore where one can buy prints, and several workshops where artists and students are in the process of creating contemporary work or restoring older work. A must visit in Guadalajara.

Instituto Cultural Cabanas and Hospicio Cabanas are the same place. A beautiful building with a major work by the great muralist Orozco. If you are interested in books on Mexican art or history, they have the best bookstore in town for those topics. There are frequently special exhibitions. Parking is a bit difficult when events are well attended.

Today, it is a vibrant arts center with an amazing Orozco mural "Man of Fire") as its centerpiece, a maze of beautiful courtyards and constantly-changing art exhibits. There are guided tours in English and Spanish, but...
