This was my main purpose to go to Oaxaca, I wanted to see Hierve el agua, the petrified falls, there are just two in the world one in Mexico Hierve el agua and the Cotton Castle in Pamukkale Turkey. You have to book a tour to reach Hierve el agua, it is very hard to get here. At one point... More

I went to Hierve el Agua by recommendation of some friends to visit. The trip to get there is around 2 hours by car due to the dirt road you'll have to pass to get there. Not many signs pointing the way. When we arrived to the site I got a little disappointed as most of the place looked artificial... More

I went on a tour with about eight other people that included stops at the huge Tule tree, a mezcal store and factory and Mitla. For one thing, the water doesn't boil. It's cold. Also, the tour guide recommended that we NOT go swimming because he says the pools are not clean. The water sits in a couple of pools... More

The only problem we face was the road conditions from Oaxaca City, as well as the place was very crowed (it was a holiday) but do not miss this nice natural wonder. More

A `must´ visit in Oaxaca. The road to the place is very rustic (not paved) but the landscape is spectacular. Sometimes known as the petrified waterfalls of Hierve el Agua, that´s not the case, as it´s not boiling water what has transformed the landscape like this either. When you visit the place, you´ll see the springs where bubbling water (that... More

We wimped out and decided to take a tour up to Hierve el Agua, and Im glad we did. But what I wasnt expecting was the cold brisk wind, on a day that started off as a beautiful sunny day. (I should have known better in November). The 'waterfall' is beautiful and Im glad we paid to go up there.... More

I agree with everybody, Hierve el Agua is totally worth and one of Oaxaca's "best kept secrets". Last August my girlfriend and I went there. This is the second time I've been there and this time I liked it even more, because we went on a week day and there was a lot less people. In fact, we were one... More

Many tour companies and taxis keep saying that it's impossible to get to hierve el agua, but this is not true, the main road is closed because problems between the two towns that you have to cross to get there, but there's another alternative that only a few tour companies are taking they have to go through a mud road... Went twice to Hierve el agua and I consider it one of the best kept secrets of Oaxaca. From now on it may become more known after the TV spots made (type "hierve el agua estrellas bicentenario" in youtube). The place is magnificent and worht totally the trip. IMPORTANT. If you go on your own, check road signals and a... More

I heard about this place when visiting Oaxaca and it sounded interesting. It was part of a day tour to a number of other places - including Mitla and Tule. The drive there was pretty scary - it's up a rough, unpaved, twisty mountain road. There were no barriers at the side of the road and when passing the few... More
