We did a little planning ahead, though apparently not quite enough. We had heard that the hike was all down hill, and had made arrangements to have a car waiting for us at Lamsur Bay. We hiked all of Reef Bay trail, the petroglyph's, and then continued to Lamsur. It was absolutely worth it! There are great views of Reef... More

We walked the trail, led by the most experienced Park Ranger on the island - Don Near, and enjoyed it thoroughly. It rained, much of the way, but didn't put a damper on the experience. The trail was not exhausting, but had some technical challenge - downhill, leaves, roots and damp (that day). Watch your step and wear good walking... More

OK...so we planned on hiking this trail...there were 6 of us. 4 adults and 2 boys 7 and 8 1/2. We all are in pretty good shape for late 30's to early 40's...so why not? The hike is absolutely gorgeous!! It took us 4 1/2 hours total because we take pictures and check everything out. The petroglyphs were WAY cool... More

A trip to Reef Bay includes quite a strenuous hike down (and then up) some very steep inclines on a narrow, dirt path. In fact, this was probably the most strenuous hike we had all week. For this reason, make sure you wear comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes and take plenty of water. On our way out, we saw a severely... More

Wear your hiking shoes, this was an amazing 2.6 mile hike with some fairly rocky areas and inclines. The trail is mostly canopied, so too much sun exposure isn't an issue. Stop to view the petroglyphs, they are showing signs of erosion. More

Lots of bugs along the way, this was expected. 1/4 the hike was along centerline road (not scenic and cars were dangerous). One side trail to a ruin was closed but unmarked so .4 miles of hiking uphill out of the way led to a closed site. More

We started at the top, I believe off of Centerline Rd. We went down and stopped at the Petroglyph trail. We went through the abandoned sugar cane factory at the end and snorkeled in Reef Bay. The hike back up, was well a little rough. The hermit crabs along the trail at the bottom were so cool. This was one... More

We decided to do the hike on our own on a day that the park service was not running its tours. That way we didn't have to run into too many people while hiking. It had a few stops along the way to explore. Grab the 'off the beaten path' book so you have a little info and history about... More

Everyone on Trip Advisor says to reserve this hike through the National Park Service early, so I shouldn't have been so surprised when I called two weeks before our vacation to St. Thomas and discovered that it was all booked up. Undaunted, near the end of our trip to St. Thomas, we took the car ferry to St. John, drove... More

We did the hike with a ranger. It was nice to have the transportation taken care of. If you go to the VI park visitors center, you can leave your driver's license, get a permit and park in the employee parking for the day, huge bonus! They transport you to the trail head and a guide takes you on the... More
