The gate itself may not be a great sight but the location offers great views to the bay and the city walls . very atmospheric
What a cool little place to see. There is a small pier not far from the gate and right next to one of the craziest looking trees you will see. A sunset from here is the way to go! Just a couple blocks from El Convento and many other super cool places to see in Old San Juan.
This Gate has some great history behind it. Easy walk from the El Convento hotel. We walked down and loved the story of dignitaries walking through this gate and being welcomed to the city. In light of the forts in San Juan, the gate itself is really not much to see. But if you love old Spanish forts and see both of them in San Juan your visit isn't complete without stopping by the gate.
This is a massive gate, over 400 years old with 20 foot thick walls entering Old San Juan. It is in amazing condition and off the Princess Promenade around the walled city. Great place for photos with beautiful views of the ocean. There is a nice shady area with benches nearby for resting walk-weary footsies! Don't miss...
Never knew about this even though I have visited the Island many times before. The Gate was so Majestic and it was not hard to envision dignitaries being formally met up with and welcomed at this point of entrance to the Island. Such pageantry.
