This was definitely a great way to spend our Easter Sunday in Jamaica. It is a bit crazy in that the parking situation is nuts and quite crowded. However for a local feel this is the place to go especially if in Kingston on a brief trip. Lots of families, couples, friends and even tourists like ourselves out and about.... More

We visited Hellshire this summer and spent the whole afternoon there with our two small children, father in law, and two family friends who are locals. I couldn't wait to visit the place my hubbie always talked about, where he and his siblings spent much of their time during their summers in Jamaica. We went on a somewhat iffy day.... More

No matter what posh hotel, I hangout in jamaica, i've got to head over to portmore beach, (Hellshire). Otherwise, it don't feel like, I've been to ja. As the people's character, tends to stand out a mile. What you see, is what you get, keeping it real, in other words. Love it, love it love it, each and every time.... More

On the weekdays, it's lively; on weekends, it can get downright crowded. On Sunday night, there's a big party on the beach that starts late. But people are always friendly and willing to interact with you if... More

Plus side, it's a beach where locals hang out and go swimming and enjoy the fish. Minus side, it's not particularly tidy (lot's of bottles and cans and other plastic litter), the water is not suitable for snorkling or diving and if you try to sample some of the steamed or fried fish the locals will try to rip you... I went to Hellshire Beach on my fist trip to Jamaica around 1998 we went with friends who were from Jamaica we had a great time. It is not a secluded beach so if that is what you are looking for, do not go. It's more like a Jamaican beach blanket bingo; music, food, and filled with people to chill... More
