It took us 3.5 hours to get there and 3.5 hours to come back. It was quite tough but we made it. Definitely, was on my bucket list and now I scratched it off. The sight was pretty awesome. Bring plenty of water and expect to get muddy. More

My wife and I are fairly experienced hikers so we eagerly sought out this hike with our guide, David, from Crescent Moon Cabins. It was a bit more than we expected with all of the ups and downs with the steps. Our calves hurt for about three days afterward, but we would do it again. The Valley of Desolation and... More

I will preface this review by saying I had no business being on this hike. It is every bit as tough as people say it is. Now, I'm not an inexperienced hiker, and I'm not out of shape - I've done the 50k One Day Hike, for example. But dang. This hike is *all* elevation change. If you can't climb... More

We are both over 65 and do a lot of hiking. We found the hike to and from the Boiling Lake via the Valley of Desolation to be very strenuous, chiefly because the trail consists priimarily of steep steps to climb and many boulders to scramble, with very little level terrain. If I were to take this hike again, I... More

You must be in pretty good shape to do this hike, but where else in the world can you see lush rain forest, beautiful views from 3000 feet, hot steam vents, grey, yellow and black hot spring rivers and a boiling lake? We finished the hike completely exhausted, but in awe. More

The hike is a bit strenuous, and the trail is difficult to follow, so I definitely recommand a guide, Nahjie was ours (nahjielaflouf2@hotmail.com). He was a great guide local to the area. The lake is amazingly turbulent! I expected some bubbles, but nothing to this extent. The hike took all of 6 hours and was difficult due to the steepness, slipperiness,... More

I did this hike in the rain with my husband and no guide. A guide is not necessary, as the trail is easy to follow and where to go when it peters out until it picks up again is pretty obvious. There is some novice-level rock climbing, a lot of river and stream crossings, scrambling across boulders, and places where... More
