We took a bus trip from our resort near Varadero to the city of Havana - 8am to approx 8 pm. The guide spoke good english and he kept everyone to a timed schedule so that we made it to all the attractions. We had a walking tour in the morning of Old Havana, that was excellent then off to... More

Some fascinating bits of colonial historic material - arms and so on - uniforms too. Look at the small sizes of most of the uniforms compared to today's average soldier. Beware of the women guides who may try to con you into something. We were there March 25th and two women sort of hustled me into a room with lots... More

The building is wonderful but learnt nothing about the history of Havana. It has lots of items, china, firearms, throne room but half the rooms were closed off, no rooms were labeled and we got conned for 2 CUC by 2 of the staff to take photos of us in throne room. (which we had read about before went in)... More

This museum occupies a very old 2 story government building on the Plaza d'Armas in Old Havana/Habana Vieja at the foot of pedestrian-only Obispo Street. It's filled with old carriages, relucs, gravestones, implements, swords, firearms, fully decorated rooms of the higher classes, art, artifacts, flags, paintings, drawings, photos, original relics of the struggle against the Spanish and of the Spanish-American war... The museum is about Cuba´s history since it was a spanish colony till the revolution (1959). Take a guided tour, so that you get to visit all the rooms. More

Fairly compact and manageable, this Museum has some interesting exhibits, but the star attraction is the building itself. The verandah overlooking the statue of columbus in the courtyard is delightful. However, the attempts that the uniformed lady attendents make to get your cash is not what you'd expect from museum staff. Still worth the entrance fee though More
