Closed when we visited, so not possibleto rate, and the lady on the factory entrance gate told us it was not currently open at all. Shame, as this could have been culturally and historically interesting. Suggest you check status before planning a visit. More

Considering the inextricable link between Barbados, slavery and the production of sugar over the last couple of centuries, then having a sugar museum on the island makes sense. The Sugar Museum itself was nothing special (2 rooms with some old machinery and a few info-placards) and somewhat run-down, however we went more because of the tour of Portvale Sugar Factory (on the same site - they do factory tours during the cane harvest season which is Feb-May). Apparently the best time to visit is when the factory is actually working but as we were out of season we didn't see this. Quaint place with a very knowledgeable guide - a retired gentleman who obviously knew his stuff about sugar. We enjoyed the visit and did learn a lot - a step back in time. More
