Since my first visit to Aruba in 1986, I have been many times at De Hooiberg but not always on De Hooiberg, it's a longer walk than you would think when looking at De Hooiberg from a distance. During the years De Hooiberg has undergone some small restorations by the Arubian government, especially the new stairway is an improvement. When... More

We searched for the trail to the top by driving around the mountain until we found it. What a great experience! Totally fun! Not as hard as it looks, and the view is awesome. More

My cousin and I attemtped to fly to Curacao for the day on a recent trip to Aruba. Our family has been going to Aruba for years. We were turned down at the airport due to a lack of flights back to Aruba. What did we do? We looked at each other and said, "Want to go climb that little... More

My wife and I make the climb every time we are on the island. It looks bigger from far away. We climbed it about 10 am this time and it was hot. You do start to feel a little winded as you get about halfway up as the heat, humity, and altitude take a slight toll on you. It is... More

Definitely worth doing. It is challenging to find but part of the fun was in getting there. It's through some neighborhoods and not marked very well. We didnt have a GPS either so we were just driving towards it and hoping to find it! There's nothing at the base so take water. The only thing I had to compare it... More

This is (I believe) the highest spot on the island of Aruba, and thus, has amazing views of pretty much the whole island from the top! (That's the best part)...what's not so awesome is the climb to the top...it's stairs the whole way (no driveable way up there, no tram, etc)...so it's on foot or you're not going to get... More

You can see Hooiberg from most anywhere on the island, but we had to drive around the mountain to eventually happen upon the steps to climb to the top. It is extremely steep, but there are a few spots with benches and a couple of shade huts. When we got too winded, we just sat on the steps to catch... More

Throughout Aruba you will find that there is not much road signage, which makes the stairs to Mt. Hooiberg tough to find. If you follow the signs to a water park, you will go right to it. It is 541’ (168m) tall, and mostly in the sun. As others have stated, it is a heart pounding climb – at least... More

I've been meaning to climb this for quite some time, and finally had the chance this visit. It took a little searching to find the parking lot (I can see the hill, but I can't get there from here!) but I made it with little effort. Being the lazy guy that I am, I was disappointed that they didn't count... More
